Residential development began on Promontory Hill in the late 1980’s and has since that time been the neighbourhood of choice for many families relocating to Chilliwack and being drawn by the opportunity of new homes, incredible views and quiet family living.
Growth has continued throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s and today new homes being built on the upper reaches offer incredible views of the western valley and mountains and south overlooking the expanse of the Chillieack River Valley.
The eastern side of Promontory has remained primarily detached housing with the exception of the award winning Apple Creek/ Centre Rock townhome complex. The west side is home now to many newer multifamily complexes as well as several new detached housing subdivisions. Thom Creek, an upscale, established, gated community for active retirees is also located in this area.
Today, a wide variety of new and resale housing choices is available to those looking to make Promontory Heights their home. From established or brand new townhomes, affordable basement entry homes on quiet cul-de-sacs, two storey homes with basements suitable for the inlaws to high end executive 3 and 4 level homes for the dicerning professional looking for more house and less yard, the options and price levels are almost unlimited.
A recently developed commercial area at “Four Corners” has added some shopping amenities to the previously “residential only” neighbourhood, making life here more convenient and taking away the need to “drive down the hill for milk”. Walking trails wind their way throughout the hillside development and a large park adjacent to the elementary school provides green space for family activities and outings.
Promontory Heights has just two access roads, Promontory Rd which travels up from Vedder Rd, and the Prest Road Bypass providing easy access to and from the highway just east of town.
Families with school aged children considering relocation to Promontory Heights are cautioned tocarefully check catchment boundaries , and space availability for Promontory Heights Elementary School.

  • Opportunities for seniors and first-time buyers

A variety of multifamily complexes along the Vedder road corridor, built mostly in the 1990’s provide affordable family living for young families and first time buyers.

Stretching from the Promontory/Watson Rd intersection on the north to the Vedder River bridge on the south, this area struggled somewhat with the closing of CFB Chilliwack in 1997 but is enjoying new vitality and growth with the development of neighbouring Garrison Crossing and the establishment of the Education Park adjacent to this area.

The retail services available to residents here are growing and being rejuvenated and the boutique style commercial corner at Garrison Crossing will make this a vibrant, desirable location in the very near future. The subdivisions of detached homes accessed via Thomas Rd began in the late 70’s and further developed in the late 1990’s with quiet cul-de-sacs which have become a choice neighbourhood for families since the opening of the new GW Graham Middle/Secondary School here.

At the eastern boundary is Halcyon Meadows, a recently developed gated community of over 200 detached retirement style ranchers and current new construction at the southern end of Vedder Crossing is bringing additional condominium housing options to this area as well.

Nature lovers will enjoy the quick access to the trails and fishing along the Vedder/Chilliwack Rivers and commutors can avoid in-town traffic with the Keith Wilson Rd route to the freeway.
